Grow Old With Me
The story behind the song
This song was inspired by the poetry of Robert and Elizabeth Browning, whom John Lennon and Yoko Ono admired greatly, even believing they might be their reincarnations. After Yoko Ono wrote a song inspired by Elizabeth Barrett Browning, John Lennon wrote "Grow Old With Me" as his answer, drawing inspiration from Robert Browning's poem "Rabbi ben Ezra." The song, recorded as a demo in 1980, is a heartfelt expression of enduring love, meant to accompany Ono's piece. It plays like a tender promise, an ode to a shared life together.
