The story behind the song

"Woman" is a song from John Lennon's 1980 album Double Fantasy. Lennon chose it to be the second single released from the album, and it was the first single of his to be issued after his murder. He wrote "Woman" as an ode to Yoko Ono and to all women, beginning the track by whispering "For the other half of the sky," a paraphrase of a Chinese proverb. Lennon stated that the song came about when he realized what women do for us, describing it as his most Beatlesque song on Double Fantasy.
