The story behind the song

This song is a tribute to comedian Andy Kaufman, with the lyrics making several references to his career, including his Elvis impersonation, wrestling, and the film My Breakfast with Blassie. The title and chorus also touch on Moon landing conspiracy theories, subtly hinting at rumors that the moon landing was faked. The music was written by drummer Bill Berry and guitarist Peter Buck, with lead singer Michael Stipe crafting the lyrics. It's a song that playfully blurs the lines between reality and performance, much like Kaufman himself.
