AmThe evening sun was sinkin' down, a chGill north wind a-blows
The nFew-plowed ground was coolin' fast, the riEver rolls and flows
Beneath the Amtwo-lane concrete river bridge betGween my place and town
On that hFot-bed Farm to Market road they cEall 1291
I'm sayin' Amson you'll see me searchin', sizzlin' dGown that broad highway
FDollar signs in both my eyes, I'm seEekin' out my prey
I'm prayin' "JAmesus, will you send me just anoGther three or four?"
They pay two-fiFfty down in Halletsville, 3 dolElars, maybe more
And more than liAmkely they'll be out tonight a-wanGderin' from the farms
FWaddlin' down 1291 to keEep their bodies warm
I'm talking waAmlkin' belts and neckties, and boGots for rodeo
They don't rFun too fast, don't waste much gas, I'm maEkin' lots o'dough
Chorus:
The armAmadillo....Co....Go....Do…The armAmadillo....Co....Go....Do
The ArmAmadillo never sees me, when I hGit him with my brights
His liFfe don't flash before his eyes, he's bliEnded by my lights
And so I Amhit him with my bumper doin' siGxty, sixty-five
They take 'em frFozen down in Halletsville, they doEn't take 'em alive
Chorus:
The jackal Amcri....Ci....Gi...iDed… The jackal Amcri....Ci....Gi...iDed
The jackal cAmried, look there's two of them a-waGlkin' down the line
I caFn't believe my luck tonight this hEere makes twenty-nine
And so he roAmlled the first one runnin', the seGcond was too fast
His breFaks and laughter squealin' as he stoEmped down on the gas
Good-God, his cAmar was sideways flyin', when the brGidge wall met his door
The imFpact shook the river bed his fEoot went through the floor
Chorus:
ForevermAmore....Cor....Gor...oDre ForevermAmore....Cor....Gor....oDre
ForevermAmore was his last moment from the brGidge wall to the stream
From the speFckled blood around his smile a-spEewin' gasoline
And then he scrAmeamed his raspy epitaph, beGfore he turned to flame
               F... E...
