"Somewhere Only We Know" captures the feeling of a private, cherished place, whether it's a physical location or an emotional space shared with someone special. The band members drew inspiration from a specific spot in Battle, East Sussex, that they frequented in childhood, even referencing a fallen tree and a pathway from their memories. While rooted in these personal experiences, the song also aims for a universal theme, suggesting it can evoke individual memories and feelings for anyone who hears it. This track, from Keane's debut album Hopes and Fears, began as a piano composition, much like a driving rock anthem. At its heart, it plays like a tender invitation to remember or create your own secret haven.
