Guns N' Roses - There Was a Time
Album: Chinese Democracy (2008)
Transcribed by Jon Malmin (jogusmal@hotmail.com)
There doesn't seem to be any transcriptions of this song in standard E tuning.
I find that for an acoustic version, E tuning is far better and makes it easier too,
since the song is in B minor and that's an easy key to play in.

Intro:
Bm F#m E Bm Bm6
Bm
Broken glass and cigarettes
A
Writin' on the wall
E
It was a bargain for the summer
B
And I thought I had it all
Bm
I was the one who gave you everything
A
The one who took the fall
E
You were the one who would do anything
B
The one who can't recall
Bm
Where she was while she was sleepin'
A
In another women's bed
E
Or the doctor's or the lawyer's
B
Or the stranger that she met
Bm
If there's nothing I can gain from this
A
Or anything at all
E
It'd be the knowledge that you gave me
E
When I thought I'd heard it all
[Chorus]
E Fmaj7#11
It was a long time for you
G6 E Fmaj7#11
It was a long time for me
G6 E Fmaj7#11
It'd be a long time for anyone but
E Fmaj7#11 G6
Looks like it's meant to be
[Same chords as last verse]
Social class and registers
Cocaine in the hall
All the way from California
On the way to your next call
To those non-negotiations
To simulate a cause
For the betterment of evils
And your ways around the laws
That keep you up and sitting pretty
On a pedestal or bed
And now you're sleeping like an angel
Never mind who you gave head
If there's somethin' I can make of this
Or anything at all
It'd be the devil hates a loser
And you thought you had it all
[Chorus]
It was the wrong time for you
It was the wrong time for me
It was the wrong time for anyone but
Looks like I'm 'bout to see for myself
D C#m
If I could go back in time
E7
To the place in my soul
There all alone
G F#
Lonely teardrops, ooh
Bm
Are callin' you
A G
But I don't want to know it now
F#m
Cause knowin' you
E E7
It won't change a damn thing
Bm Bm6
But there was a time
Solo backing:
BmA E Bm
(x2)
Bm F#m E E7
Bm A E E7
Bm
Yeah there was a time
A
Didn't wanna know it all...
E
Didn't wanna know it all...
E7
()
And I don't wanna know it now (Repeat once more)
[Gtr. melody backing]
Bm A E E7
Bm A E
I would do anything for you
There was a time
Bm A E
I would do anything for you
Bm A E
I would do anything for you
There was a time
(Just keep playing Bm, A, E, (E7) throughout the rest of the song, with the
long solo and the crazy coda)
Well, that's it for this song! Cheers y'all!
