First tab for me. This is done by ear and should give you a good idea of the chord
structure. To play it like Matt you really need to watch his videos and study his technique
and the little licks he utilises between lines and verses. This is the video I am basing
this off: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xS4XEuiIfVE
Not sure on the naming of chords but they are tabbed below.
Tips: this song is mostly picked, starting with the A string and then a picking the rest
of the strings in a fan a half beat later. The bottom E (in pitch) is rarely picked
apart from the turnarounds between lines/verses, this is in the shape of G and if you
are having trouble playing the picked version use a G at the end of each section. Best advice
though, watch the video and try to pick-up his technique. Enjoy ;)
Chords:
C/E
: 032013
Cm/E
: 002003
Fmaj9
: 003213
G: 320033 (rather than actually playing G you can just do a little lick using the
same positions)
E7
: 020100
Am7: 002010 (can also play standard Am)
C/E Cm/E
Every now and then I get a little bit carried away
Fmaj9 C/E G
Even at my best I feel so far away
C/E Cm/E
Like an anchor on a ship, you keep me close to land
Fmaj9 C/E G
Hold tight baby, hold me with both hands
C/E Cm/E
I’m a wave without an ocean, a risk without a chance to take
Fmaj9 C/E G
A thought without a notion, a love without a heart to break
C/E Cm/E
With all this weight upon me I don’t think that I can stand
Fmaj9 C/E
Hold me baby, hold me with both hands
E7
Wishes come easy, but hope stays far behind
Am7
If only it was easy, if all it would take was time
C/E Cm/E
People don’t see a thing, when they think I’ve got it all
Fmaj9 C/E G
They think I’ve never hit the bottom, they’ve never seen me fall
C/E Cm/E
But you’re the one who knows, you’re the one who understands
Fmaj9 C/E G
When you hold me baby, hold me with both hands
Fmaj9 C/E G
When you hold me baby, hold me with both hands
Additional: I throw a few 5th harmonics in every so often and the odd scale between
verses to extend the length when played live.
