The story behind the song

This song, written and sung by David Gilmour, is one of the first he ever wrote, and he played most of the instruments on the studio recording. It evokes the feeling of a peaceful, fading day, with the imagery of the "fat old sun" setting. The track features a stock sound effect of bells at its beginning and end, adding to its contemplative atmosphere. On the Atom Heart Mother album, it offers a moment of quiet reflection within Pink Floyd's experimental soundscapes. Playing it feels like watching the sun slowly dip below the horizon, bringing a sense of calm and closure.
