The story behind the song

This song, written by Gary P. Nunn and Donna Farar, captures the feeling of waking up to an unexpected heartbreak. It's about the moment you realize a relationship has ended, and the morning light brings with it the heavy truth you weren't ready to face. Willie Nelson's recording, released as a single from his album Always on My Mind, became a notable hit. It plays like a somber reflection on love lost, right as a new day begins.
