"Down In A Hole," from the album Dirt, is a deeply personal song written by Jerry Cantrell for his then-girlfriend. It explores the challenging reality of maintaining a long-term relationship amidst the demands of his chosen path in life. Cantrell himself felt it was a powerful reflection of his life, even foretelling the difficulties they would face. Though initially hesitant to share it with the band due to its softer nature, its emotional core resonated strongly. Playing this song channels a sense of profound introspection about love and sacrifice.
