"This Love" captures the raw emotion of a breakup, penned by the lead vocalist Adam Levine during a particularly trying time in his life. The lyrics directly reflect the conflict and emotional state he was in as a relationship was ending, and his girlfriend was literally leaving town. The song's composition blends a distinctive piano line and repeating guitar riff with a "slick pop funk" feel, influenced by artists like Stevie Wonder, creating a rocking yet soulful tale of romantic dissolution. At its heart, it plays like a vivid, almost erotic, recounting of a love that's slipping away.
