The story behind the song
"Astral Weeks" is the title track and opening song from Van Morrison's 1968 album of the same name. Van Morrison described the song as being about "transforming energy" and a "rebirth," where one can "see the light at the end of the tunnel." He began working on the song in Belfast in 1966 after seeing drawings on astral projection, which inspired the title. The song was recorded in a single take during the first session for the album, with the flautist stating it was his first time hearing it.
