"Don't Stop the Music" is a dance-pop song from Rihanna's 2007 album Good Girl Gone Bad, featuring rhythmic devices often found in hip hop music. It's built around a syncopated arrangement with layered rhythms, a heavy bass drumbeat, and a prominent sampled chant of "Mama-say, mama-sa, ma-ma-ko-ssa" that serves as a throbbing background motif. The song has a bouncy feel, with a vocal melody in the verses that has been compared to Aaliyah's "Try Again" and a chorus reminiscent of Madonna's "La Isla Bonita." Playing this song means channeling that driving, rhythmic energy and the insistent call to keep the music going.
