"Toxicity" explores themes of societal dysfunction, driven by aggressive vocals and a dynamic chorus. Originally conceived by bassist Shavo Odadjian under the title "Version 7.0," the song nearly went overlooked during the recording process despite its significance. Guitarist Daron Malakian's vision helped evolve the band's sound beyond traditional heavy metal with this track, incorporating anthemic choruses and complex arrangements. The intense drumming also emerged from a moment of frustration during recording, adding to the song's powerful energy. It's a song that channels the chaotic energy of a world struggling with its own imbalances.
