The story behind the song

"Hanging Garden" comes from The Cure's fourth studio album, Pornography, an album that marked a period where the band adopted an increasingly dark and tormented style. The music video for the song shows the band playing in a garden while wearing masks, a concept similar to the album itself. The band's consistent member, Robert Smith, noted that they wanted the video to be less serious than the directors intended. Playing this song, you tap into that darker, more intense side of The Cure's early sound.
