The story behind the song

"Tonight, Tonight" is a song that pays homage to the band Cheap Trick, carrying a black humoresque tone in its lyrics and theme. It's a deeply personal message from frontman Billy Corgan to himself, a testament to overcoming an abusive childhood and a reminder to always believe in himself. The song was written for the album Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness, and its lyrics resonate with the album's overall themes. The composition notably features a 30-piece string section, an experience Corgan described as one of his most exciting in recording. At its heart, this song is an anthem of resilience and self-belief.
