"Auld Lang Syne" is a Scottish song traditionally sung to mark the passage of time, most famously at New Year's Eve to bid farewell to the old year. Its title translates to "old long since" or "days gone by," and the lyrics reflect on "the sake of old times" and cherished memories. While written by Robert Burns in 1788 based on an older folk song, its themes of remembrance and friendship have made it a staple at graduations, funerals, and other farewell occasions. Playing it evokes a sense of looking back with fondness and acknowledging the moments that have shaped us.
