"Africa" by Toto is a song born from a deep, imaginative connection to a continent. It began when David Paich, inspired by a late-night documentary on African suffering and the missionary work of his childhood teachers, envisioned a love for Africa through the eyes of someone who had never been there. He channeled the chorus in a flash, then spent six months refining the lyrics to tell the story of a man's love for a continent, grappling with its plight and the longing to be there. This powerful sense of longing and a vivid, almost spiritual connection to a distant land is what truly defines the song.
