"The Crunge" is a song from Led Zeppelin's 1973 album Houses of the Holy. It evolved from a studio jam session, with John Bonham starting the beat, John Paul Jones on bass, and Jimmy Page playing a funk guitar riff he'd been experimenting with since 1970. Robert Plant joined in on vocals, and for the recording, Page used a Fender Stratocaster. The song, primarily in 9/8, is a take on James Brown's funk style, similar to their reggae attempt "D'yer Mak'er", and was also released as the B-side to "D'yer Mak'er" in the US.
