CThe River ran through Howard County, it was the life blood of the Fland
It made Cfields of green tobacco, aching Gbacks and callused hands
Mama Ctalked of a coming battle that the Fwomenfolk had to fight

CWell it came up out of nowhere, from a dark and bitter Fseed
It was the Croughest kind of roadhouse and a Gmost unwanted weed
It drew the Cmenfolk like a magnet, the women Fknew what they had to do
So they Gput it in the hands of Jesus, 'cause they Fknew that Ghe'd comeC
