"Vera" is a poignant reflection on absence and the enduring hope for reunion, referencing Vera Lynn, a singer popular during World War II. The song evokes the longing for those lost in conflict, playing on the sentiment of her famous song, "We'll Meet Again." Its intro features a collage of audio excerpts, including dialogue and battle sounds, immersing the listener in a wartime atmosphere. The song appears on Pink Floyd's eleventh studio album, The Wall, where the band explores complex themes through extended compositions and philosophical lyrics. At its heart, it plays like a quiet, wistful memory of separation and a yearning for connection.
