The story behind the song

"Soap" explores the vulnerability of expressing feelings, particularly when first falling for someone. The song captures that moment of hesitation, the fear that speaking your heart might ruin everything, leading to the desire to "wash your mouth out with soap" to take back the words. It's about that universal experience of being scared to be open and allowing oneself to be vulnerable. This alt-pop track appears on Melanie Martinez's debut studio album, Cry Baby.
