The story behind the song

"Perfect" is a romantic ballad written about Ed Sheeran's wife-to-be, Cherry Seaborn. The inspiration for the lyrics came after an evening spent listening to music barefoot on the grass. Sheeran felt the song was special the day he wrote it, and it was the first track he penned for his album, ÷. His brother, Matthew Sheeran, contributed a strings orchestration to the song, marking their first collaboration at their grandmother's suggestion. At its heart, the song is a heartfelt dedication to a deep and enduring love.
