Robert Smith considered "Mint Car" a better song than "Friday I'm in Love," seeing it as a strong single, though it didn't achieve the same level of mainstream success. He reflected that sometimes the timing and cultural mood play a significant role in a song's reception, beyond its inherent quality. This track, from the album Wild Mood Swings, carries that feeling of a bright, hopeful song that perhaps arrived at an unready moment. It plays like a snapshot of optimism, unburdened by external expectations.
