"Jah Live" was written as a powerful message to the world, directly confronting those who doubted the Rastafarian faith after the reported death of Haile Selassie I. The song insists that Selassie, seen by Rastafarians as the reincarnation of God, could not truly die, as expressed in the line, "Yuh cyant kill God." It challenges the claims of detractors, asserting that "Fools say in their hearts / Rasta your God is dead / But I and I know Jah-Jah!" This 1975 single captures a moment of unwavering spiritual conviction in the face of apparent loss. Playing it means channeling a spirit of profound faith and defiance.
