"War Pigs" is an anti-war protest song that began with the title "Walpurgis," a reference to a witches' sabbath. The lyricist saw war as "the big Satan," an evil in itself, which inspired the analogy of generals gathering like witches at black masses. The song’s theme was shaped by the fear of conscription during the Vietnam War, reflecting a widespread sentiment against going to war. This powerful track from the album Paranoid channels the raw emotion of rebellion against the perceived evil of conflict.
