The story behind the song

This song tells the story of a young woman's forbidden love for the son of a preacher man. It captures the thrill and innocence of a secret romance, where the boy's charm and understanding eyes lead her astray from her father's watchful gaze. The song was written with Aretha Franklin in mind, but it found its iconic voice with Dusty Springfield on her 1968 album Dusty in Memphis. It embodies that feeling of youthful rebellion and the sweet pull of an irresistible connection.
