"Afire Love" is a deeply personal song from Ed Sheeran's second studio album, ×. It's a tribute to his late grandfather, who lived with Alzheimer's disease for two decades. Sheeran began writing the song shortly before his grandfather's passing in December 2013 and finished it at his funeral, capturing his reactions to the disease from childhood onward. The song incorporates elements of "Remembering Jenny" from the Buffy the Vampire Slayer soundtrack. Playing this song channels a profound sense of remembrance and enduring love in the face of loss.
