"Robbers" tells the story of an ill-fated robbery heist, directly inspired by the film True Romance and its character Alabama Worley. Beyond the literal narrative, the song functions as an exploration of toxic relationships, depicting two lovers who are detrimental to each other but cling on, knowing their connection is doomed. It delves into the idea of a romantic ideal, even one that involves a girl obsessed with her "professional killer boyfriend," highlighting a craving for a "bad boy" dynamic. This song captures the intense, often destructive allure of a love that robs happiness while pretending it will last forever.
