The story behind the song

"Charlotte Sometimes" is a song directly inspired by Penelope Farmer's children's novel of the same name. The lyrics closely mirror passages from the book, capturing the feeling of faces and voices blurring into one, and the vivid imagery of preparing for bed in a brightly lit room with glaring white walls. This non-album single from 1981 offers a direct musical interpretation of literary themes, with its B-side also drawing from the novel. It plays like a lyrical journey into the story's unique atmosphere.
