40
The story behind the song
"40" is a song whose lyrics are a modification of the Bible's Psalm 40, giving it a deeply spiritual and reflective core. It was written and recorded very quickly as the band was being rushed out of the studio during the creation of their 1983 album, War. The song became famous for its live performances, often closing concerts with band members leaving the stage one by one while the audience continued to sing its refrain. Playing this song channels a feeling of enduring reflection and communal spirit.
