The story behind the song

"My Hero" is a tribute to the "ordinary heroes" in life, the everyday people Dave Grohl looks up to more than celebrities. The song was written while watching 1980s movies, and the band even unknowingly wrote it about Pete Stahl and Chip Donaldson. It first appeared on the 1997 album The Colour and the Shape, though Grohl had demoed it alone in his basement with an early version of the lyrics in 1995. This song plays like an anthem for recognizing the quiet strength in those around us.
