"Song 2" was originally conceived as a joke on the record company, with the band intending to blow executives' heads off by proposing it as a single. It began as a slower acoustic demo with a whistled "woo-hoo" chorus, but was then sped up and performed loudly with a deliberately amateurish guitar sound. Some interpret the song as a parody of grunge, while others see it as a send-up of radio hits and the music industry itself, delivered with a punk rock chorus. At its heart, it plays like a playful, rebellious jab at commercial expectations.
