The story behind the song

"Tonight" appears on Elton John's 1976 double album, Blue Moves, which is known for its experimental fusion of pop, gospel, disco, and jazz, often featuring orchestral elements and extended song lengths. This period marked a shift for John, as he took a break from touring and collaborated with a varied group of musicians, including guest vocalists and orchestras. The song emerges from a creative landscape where John was exploring new musical directions, pushing the boundaries of his sound. It plays like a piece born from a moment of artistic introspection and expansive musical ambition.
