Best Free Online Guitar Tuner (No Download)

Published February 15, 2025 · Free Chord Book

The fastest way to tune a guitar is a browser tuner that uses your microphone. No app, no download, no clip-on. Free Chord Book's online tuner uses YIN pitch detection, the same algorithm used in professional audio software, to detect each string's frequency in milliseconds.

Standard tuning (EADGBE)

From the thickest (lowest) string to the thinnest (highest):

  1. 6th string: E2 (82.4 Hz)
  2. 5th string: A2 (110 Hz)
  3. 4th string: D3 (146.8 Hz)
  4. 3rd string: G3 (196 Hz)
  5. 2nd string: B3 (246.9 Hz)
  6. 1st string: E4 (329.6 Hz)

How to use our online tuner

  1. Allow microphone access when prompted.
  2. Pluck one string at a time, clean and steady.
  3. The tuner shows the nearest note and how far off (in cents).
  4. Turn the tuning peg slowly until the needle hits center.

Tips for accurate tuning

  • Tune in a quiet room. Background noise throws off pitch detection.
  • Always tune up to the note, not down. This keeps the string tight against the tuning post and prevents it from going flat.
  • Retune after big temperature changes or after replacing strings.

Alternate tunings

Our tuner also works for Drop D (DADGBE), Open G (DGDGBD), DADGAD, and half-step down (Eb Ab Db Gb Bb Eb). Just tune each string to the new target pitch.
